Let’s Press Restart

I’ve been thinking about content lately.

Well, I think about content quite often, to be honest. As someone working in marketing and social media, the subject of content and trends and how to grab someone’s attention is often at the forefront of my mind. But in particular, I’ve been thinking about how content is consumed so fast, how do you do more than catch someone’s attention–how do you leave an impression?

A friend sent me a message a little while ago, asking me about a quote I had shared on my Instagram story. She wanted to send it to a friend. That same quote had prompted a friend I hadn’t spoken to in quite some time to reach out and spark a connection. What was it about this quote that resonated with them deeply enough that it inspired them to take action?

I consume stories and I consume art and I consume various types of social media, so much so that sometimes I forget that practicing how to create content and contribute to the conversation can be more valuable than just watching what everyone else is doing. So this is me putting theory into practice and putting myself out there. Hello again world, I’ve been here the whole time, but now I’m ready to meet you.

I’ve had this blog for about two years now, and I’ve hardly ever used it. By some miracle of productivity I managed to get it updated and refreshed over the weekend, at least to the point that looking at it doesn’t make me cringe. And I do think the coming weeks and months will still be a little cringey. I’m going to experiment and make mistakes and be thankful that right now I don’t have any followers watching while I get my shit together. But I will also be learning and growing and evolving.

I’d like to use this blog to chronicle my journey as a self-taught artist, but at the same time I can predict I will probably be getting distracted by shiny things along the way. Maybe I’ll tell you all about my latest fandom addictions or share my favorite jewelry brands or travel recommendations. I want to doodle in my sketchbook, but I also want to learn how to be a better writer, how to take better instagram photos, how to edit videos… the list goes on!

For now, the goal isn’t to make it perfect. The goal is to simply make it exist.

Come be imperfect with me.
